Shelby SuperCars (SSC) have released the details of its new all-electric "powertrain" the AESP. SSC will incorporate its AESP into the current Ultimate Aero to create the Ultimate Aero EV. Already being the World's Fastest Production Car, SSC decided that the Ultimate Aero was the perfect way to demonstrate their revolutionary Green powertrain.
SSC will fit its AESP in the Ultimate Aero EV in order to prove that electric-powered vehicles will not only match but also provide more forward power (electric motors have 100% torque at 0 RPM) and overall performance than cars with internal combustion engines. The Ultimate Aero EV uses a twin motor AESP producing an astounding 1,000 HP and 800 lb-ft of torque enabling it to hit 60 mph in a mere 2.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 208 mph. Not only does the Ultimate Aero EV have a range of 150-200 miles on a single charge, but SSC's "Charge on the Run" onboard charging system lets the battery fully recharge in as little as 10 minutes. It 3-speed automatic transmission moves the Ultimate Aero EV's power to its wheels and has electronically controlled gear shift times of 0.24 s. The entire system is liquid cooled allowing it to run for extended periods of time at peak performance with no overheating issues.
SSC's green department plans to incorporate this system in to more practical, family style cars in the future. The EV was simply a way of showcasing this technology. Could electric be the way forwards? We'll just have to wait and see...but with its staggering performance, and incredible design, combined with its environmentally friendliness, this is surely the ultimate example of a true "supercar".
I can't tear my eyes away from these pictures. In my opinion, the most beautiful car ever designed.
